We were not allowed
to fight. Dad would step
in before fights occurred. We didn't
have anything to fight about. Our ages
had something to do with that Glenn
being 12 yrs older and Lee being 7 yrs
older than me. We were very seldom
together. Until we all got married and
had families, then we worked 
together on the farms w each other

No, I put my energy
into having real friends.
Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, and
Barbara Striestand were beautiful to look
at but not people I imagined for a friend.

Which of the Presidents in your lifetime has been your favorite and why?

President Ronald Reagan. He knew
the Bible. Had compassion for poor. Was a 
great statesman. Knew about economics. Got this
country on the right track for years following.

Yes, Virg Muilenburg & I went to 
a rally for Canidate Richard M Nixon in Sioux City, about 1972

No just our family.

We used to have cousins 
parties and the Pizza Ranch downtown O.C. 
As many as 50 people came. This was during 
the 1970s & 1980s. Haven't had any 
for the last 15 years. Everybody is too busy 
with their own families. Family reunions 
are also a thing of the past in my 
extended family. The Plenders were closer to each other 
than the De Haan families.

Uncle Heinie Plender was
the other half the Plender favorite. He frist
rented his land to me and also made it
possibly to rent land from Ken & Lawrence
Bloemendaal. Uncle Heinie also worked with my
Dad while picking corn and other farm work.

Tell about a favorite Aunt.

Aunt Artie Plender was
very friendly to me. I would stay there over
night and play with her sons Arlin & Dwayne
Plender. Ride bick and pony. She also
rents me her land N of OC. 50 A.

I didn't know my Grandma
Plender. She died before I was born.
Grandma De Haan lived 1 blk NE of Church
and every other Sunday we go there after SS.
She would serve us lemonade and cookies.

Tell a fond memory of your Grandpa.

Grandpa Plender always gave
us pink peppermints if we saw him at
church. At Christmas time he would give
each of his grandkids a box of chocolate
covered cherries. His hair always had a 
part down the middle. He smoked
cigars and when he would visit our
house I could always tell when
he came to visit because our house
smelled like cigar smoke for days.

Lee gave me the name
of a cartoon character in the newspaper
called Scizex. My dad gave me
the nickname Johnny. Because we 
were on vacation to Colorado and we met
a black man who called me Johnny.

farm with chores + washing
the cream seperator.
